COMMUNITY SUPPORT
Over the past year, dozens of Oʻahu residents submitted testimony to the Honolulu Charter Commission in support of using Ranked Choice Voting for our elections—a policy that’s for the people, by the people.
Here’s why your fellow community members are voting YES on 5:
“The benefits [of Ranked Choice Voting] include higher voter satisfaction, more diverse and ideological representation, less negative campaigning, cost savings, no more ‘wasted votes’ or ‘spoiler’ candidates, and most importantly it aligns with Hawai’i values of aloha and unity.”
- Leschon from Kakaʻako
“Every time we vote, the conversation we have with friends and family is how we can vote strategically so that we can make the biggest impact with just one vote. But the reality is, it’s limiting the freedom of expression, we are forced to accept the one that we don’t truly align with. We all should be able to vote for someone who we truly believe in.”
- Sayaka from Waikiki
“Ranked Choice Voting gives voters more choice by allowing them to rank candidates instead of selecting just one. It ensures fairer outcomes, majority-supported winners, and saves public funds by avoiding runoff elections. As a voter, I want a system that reflects my full voice.”
- Jamil from Ala Moana
“This system promotes consensus, reduces vote-splitting, and ensures elected officials better reflect voter preferences. Ranked choice voting strengthens democratic legitimacy.”
- Nanea from McCully-Moiliili
“Please support P130 so people can vote for candidates they truly feel represent them without worrying about splitting the vote. Let elections better represent the will of the people.”
- Sunshine from Haleiwa
